Profiling services

Blade Profiling

Blade profiling is the process of shaping the rocker—the curvature along the length of your skate blade—to match a skater’s technique, discipline, and preferences.

While sharpening affects how the blade grips the ice, profiling determines how the blade contacts the ice. It directly influences balance, agility, glide, and power. A properly profiled blade allows the skater to find their natural stance more easily and move more efficiently on the ice.

Understanding Rocker Profiles

Different profiles modify how much of the blade is in contact with the ice, and where that contact is positioned.

Single Radius

A single radius profile uses one consistent curve from heel to toe.
It offers a smooth, predictable feel and is commonly found on stock blades. This is the most neutral and traditional setup.

Double Radius

A double radius combines two different curves—typically a flatter section for stability and a tighter section for agility.
This allows for a balance between glide and maneuverability.

Zuperior Profile

The Zuperior profile uses three blended radii to create a more dynamic blade.
It increases blade contact for better glide and stability, while maintaining quick pivot points for acceleration and transitions.

Quad Profile

A quad profile uses four distinct radii along the blade.
It is designed for maximum performance, offering powerful stride efficiency, strong edge control, and smooth weight transfer across the blade.

Ellipse Profile

An ellipse profile replaces traditional radii with a continuously changing curve.
This creates a very fluid skating experience, improving glide, edge flow, and consistency through turns.

The Right Profile

There is no universal “best” profile—only what is best for the skater.
Each profile changes how the blade behaves underfoot, and the ideal choice depends on skating style, level, and personal feel.

At Maison du Patin, profiling is approached as a precision service, tailored to help each skater unlock the full potential of their blades.

If you are unsure which profile suits you best, we invite you to reach out for a personalized evaluation at tristan@maisondupatin.com.

We also offer a unique opportunity to try different profiles before committing, with a selection of pre-profiled blades available for testing. This allows you to feel the difference on the ice and make a confident, informed decision.
